Whiskey casks are widely understood to fall within Ireland’s wasting asset rules, as natural evaporation during maturation limits the expected life of the cask. Under Irish tax law, wasting assets with an expected lifespan of less than 50 years are generally exempt from Capital Gains Tax, although treatment depends on individual circumstances.*
